Final Voyage: Dredging Titan Douglas B. Mackie (May 3, 1952 – September 11, 2019)

We have lost an industry giant.  Douglas B. Remembering 9/11 and the Largest Boatlift in World History

Today on August 12, 2019 at its repair facility in Houma, Louisiana, dredging and marine construction contractor Weeks Marine celebrated its 100thanniversary with the christening of its newest asset – the highly automated and multifunctional ocean-going U.S.-flag hydraulic cutter suction dredge J.S. U.S. Supreme Court rules punitive damages cannot be sought for unseaworthiness claims; Court leaves undisturbed customary and traditional rights of injured mariners.

Article III of the Constitution states that the “judicial power shall extend . . . to all Cases of admiralty and maritime Jurisdiction.” In the Judiciary Act of 1789, Congress granted to the district courts exclusive original jurisdiction in civil cases in admiralty and maritime matters.
